AzaGuard is made with 3% Azadirachtin and primarily targets immature lifecycle stages (nymphs and larvae) and works as an ecdysone blocker. Ecdysone is steroid hormone that is needed for the metamorphosis of larvae/nymphs into adults. By blocking this hormone, larvae/nymphs stop developing and die off. AzaGuard also includes oviposition inhibitor properties (sprayed plant surfaces deter female adults to lay eggs) and anti-feedant effects (larvae and adults do not like to chew on foliage treated with AzaGuard).
BioCeres WP is an insect-pathogenic bioinsecticide using a proprietary ANT-03 strain of Beauveria bassiana fungus which is approved for organic production and perfectly suited for IPM programs, in a tank mix with other pesticides, as well as specific stand-alone use. BioCeres WP targets the adult stage and works by being consumed or by adhering to the insect’s cuticle (outer shell), infecting the host, growing internal hyphal bodies which spread to an external fungal disease causing death. The Beauveria bassiana fungus can also infect larvae that have a longer lifecycles, and is effective on diapausing insects.
Both AzaGuard and BioCeres WP are part of a winning combination to help control multiple lifecycle stages of insect pests. Using these products together greatly increases effectiveness in decreasing insect populations, keeping them subdued throughout the growing season.
