FAQs: GreenClean pH UP and GreenClean pH DOWN

Pond02+ Home & Garden is easy to use
Q: What is pH?
A: Water is composed of hydrogen and oxygen molecules. Neutral water is given a pH value of 7.2. It contains equal amounts of hydrogen ions (H+) and hydroxide ions (OH-). Dissolved chemicals and minerals change the balance of those ions from a perfectly neutral state. The further these values rise or fall, the more acidic (less than 7.2) or alkaline (greater than 7.2) the water becomes.
Q: Why do I need to control pH levels?
A: When pH levels are too high (alkaline) or too low (acidic) your water is out of balance and the environment promotes unhappy fish, unhealthy plants, unpleasant odors, and algae growth. By maintaining a neutral pH range, 6.8 – 7.8, water features are clean and healthy.
Q: How does GreenClean pH UP affect my water?
A: If your water has a low pH or is acidic, GreenClean pH UP will slowly increase the pH level to bring your water into a neutral range. Often times high levels of sulfur or nitrogen create acidic water conditions. In very acidic conditions, fish and plants may find it impossible to survive. GreenClean pH UP will increase the amount of hydroxide ions (OH-) balancing the pond’s ecosystem and restoring a healthy environment for fish and plants.
Q: How does GreenClean pH DOWN affect my water?
A: If your water has a high pH or is alkaline, GreenClean pH DOWN will slowly lower the pH level to bring your water into a neutral range. By increasing the amount of hydrogen ions (H+), GreenClean pH DOWN returns balance to water. In extremely alkaline water, fish and plants may find it impossible to survive making GreenClean pH DOWN vital to the health and well-being of aquatic life.
Q: When should I apply GreenClean pH products?
A: Testing the pH on a regular basis is the best way to regulate water conditions. Test early in the morning when pH levels are most neutral. Never over apply pH products as any great change can disrupt a pond’s ecosystem.
